Text Box: The Nutrient Surplus Area as defined by Title 22 Text Box: Poultry Registration Poultry operations housing 2,500 birds or more must register annually. Registration is from January 1 to March 31 each year. Registration must be completed at the Conservation District office. There is a $10.00 fee for each farm. Must have information regarding: Litter produced, applied, or transferred Litter analysis Soil test analysis Acreage available for application Other information Nutrient Management Planner Certification Nutrient Management Plans must be created by a certified planner. Applicants must attend training course and pay $125.00 fee.

Nutrient Applicator Certification

Anyone applying nutrients to 2.5 acres or more must be a Certified Nutrient Applicator.

Private Applicator

* A person who applies nutrients to land that they own or control.

* Attend training class

* $30.00 certification fee

Commercial Applicator

* A person who derives a substantial portion of income for applying nutrients to land that they do not own or control.

* Attend training class and pass test

* $85.00 in fees

Nutrient Application and Management

Within the Nutrient Surplus Area:

* After January 1, 2007, poultry litter application must be in accordance with a Nutrient Management Plan.

* A Nutrient Management Plan is not required for commercial fertilizer application, but soil test analysis is necessary for the application of phosphorus.

* Nutrient Management Plans must be updated every 5 years.

* Records of nutrient application must be kept for 5 years.

* Contact the Conservation District to request a Nutrient Management Plan.
